ALBA Organic Farm Training
I spent time volunteering at ALBA (Agricultural Land-Based Training Association) where I performed market research for the very busy team. ALBA hosts farmer-interns from around the world that want to learn how to farm organically and responsibly. They also teach the locals who can sign up to have a small plot of land to practice farming techniques for a season or two before starting their own farm. Some of the work I included gathering local farmers market pricing data and creating an amazing spreadsheet to correlate the price differences between traditional and organic produce. Other days I came to the farm in work clothes and helped sort pallets of garlic, turn heaps of compost, and work on drip irrigation systems. Best memory I have from ALBA was relaxing on an amazing porch in the beautiful California sun and talking to the farm-intern about his home country, Nicaragua.
